Kiosk Troubleshooting
How do we troubleshoot the kiosk?
If your Adoration Check-In Kiosk is not working correctly, here are some ideas to try out. Work through them in order, since the early steps are the quickest and solve most problems.
Most of the links below are for iPads (our recommended device). If you have another tablet, the steps should be similar.
Some of these steps require exiting Guided Access first: triple-click the Top or Home button and enter your Guided Access passcode. If you don't remember the passcode, check the Guided Access passcode field at Admin » Settings » Attendance, where it may have been stored during setup.
Start Here
- Check when your kiosk last reported in. Go to Admin » Settings » Attendance and look for the Last update from your kiosk line. A healthy kiosk reports back every few minutes.
- Confirm the kiosk is still enabled. If the Enable the Adoration Check-In Kiosk setting at Admin » Settings » Attendance was turned off, the kiosk logs itself out and returns to the login screen. Turn it back on, then log in again on the tablet.
- Tap the We Adore Him logo at the top of the kiosk. This reloads the kiosk, which clears up a stuck or outdated screen and is the one fix you can apply without exiting Guided Access. Tap once, wait a few seconds for it to reload, and tap again if nothing changes. Two or three tries is usually enough.
Network
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off.
- Reboot the network modem and router.
- Give the tablet a priority Wi-Fi connection so the router doesn't kick it off as it cycles through new connections.
- Set Private Wi-Fi Address to Fixed for your chapel network at Settings » Wi-Fi. On the Rotating setting, the tablet periodically looks like a brand new device to your router, which some routers respond to by dropping the connection. On older versions of iPadOS, this is a simple toggle you can turn off instead.
- Reset the network settings.
Device
- Restart the device.
- Confirm the tablet's clock is correct at Settings » General » Date & Time, and toggle on Set Automatically. A tablet with the wrong date cannot connect securely to your website, which is a common problem on older devices.
- Reset the browser cache.
- Update the operating system.
- Reinstall the web app.
- Factory reset the device.
Login and Password
-
Force the kiosk to log out by visiting kiosk.weadorehim.com/?logout=1 in the web app. This clears the saved login and returns you to the login screen without reinstalling anything.
-
Change the kiosk password at Admin » Settings » Attendance.
Changing the password logs your kiosk out, so you'll need to log back in on the tablet. It also invalidates any printed Mobile Check-In QR Code, which you'll need to print again.
- Try logging in to kiosk.weadorehim.com in your device's browser.
-
Try logging in to
kiosk.weadorehim.com/?testing=1 on another device. The
?testing=1at the end puts the device in test mode, which keeps the last update time and offline notifications tied to your main kiosk instead of the test device. You'll see a yellow TEST MODE banner at the top of the screen to confirm.
Digging Deeper
- Open the kiosk debug page on the device. It runs the kiosk and surfaces any hidden error messages right on the screen. If a red box appears, take a screenshot, which helps us diagnose the problem, especially on older devices.
- Connect the device to a computer and check for console errors (e.g., Safari Web Inspector).
